tonight. it's cooling up off. 55, san francisco. low 50s, antioch, livermore, fremont. 54 right now in san jose. i want to show you the wind speedsle we just mentioned some of the strongest gusts around the bay area the last 24 hours. it's starting to die down. so calm conditions across much of the bay area. those winds started to shift about 9:00 this morning, from the southwest, that strong wind direction to more of a westerly wind flow right now. clouds and cooler overnight, dry tomorrow, more rain moves back into the bay area mid-week. it will be cooler tonight with a few scattered clouds. fog could develop in protected valley areas. so look for mid-up toker 40s. low 50s near the water's edge. here it was, at 7:00 this morning. the heavy storm front pushing rapidly to the south. here's the clearing we'll get into tor tonight and tomorrow. but already you can see the high and mid-level clouds ahead of the next system that is due in here on tuesday. in fact here is a look at the timing. going from 6:00 this evening, keep it dry, tonight, and tomorrow. this is 7:00 a.m. watch out for some

. san francisco 48 degrees. fremont 45. antioch 40 degrees. here is the weather pattern we have been tracking. our main concern over the past few days. atmospheric river approaching. this was the source of the rainfall. heading to the south and east. you will notice clouds developing off shore. more development to the south and west. that is a few extra clouds for monday and maybe rain showers in the north bay, tuesday. here is our forecast, tomorrow morning, 10:00 a.m., partly cloudy skies. clouds thicken into the afternoon by 4:00 p.m. tuesday we bring in a chance of rain showers. main chance in the north bay. some of the models bringing it more to the south tuesday afternoon. by tuesday evening we could be attracting more rain chances. to the south wednesday morning and with scattered showers. main activity is in the north bay, especially for the coastal hills. nothing compared to the system that just moved through today. temperatures forecast highs for your monday upper 50s to lower 60s. half moon bay 59. san jose 62. and fremont 62 degrees as well. here is your five-day forecast

city and fremont 47. san francisco dropping down to 51 degrees. this is what i wanted to show you for about five days but haven't had the chance. cbs 5 high def doppler is dry and will stay that way until wednesday. here is how much rain fell. in the north bay mountains, i can't believe this, they had 6- 14 inches of rain over five days. sonoma county had 5-9 inches of rain. on the peninsula, including san francisco, 3-6 inches of rain. inland along the 680 corridor and the east bay, you also had 3-6 inches of rain but it is done. it is finished. there is no round four. here is something interesting. the rainfall is pushing off to the east. look at what is coming up next. it looks like the -- it looks like the system is heading toward us. but here is one deflector shield, if you will. high pressure building in to the south and west that will take that moisture and shove it up to the north. so high pressure will dry us out giving us partly sunny skies tomorrow and mainly cloudy but still dry on tuesday. on tuesday night into wednesday that there is an area of low pressure that will

in afternoon will have 614 fremont area as we turn our attention to the east bay everyone will be in the low 60's as well. in the north bay we do have ground fog but sunshine will hit in the afternoon. six days is the afternoon high for daly city. almost 8 in. of rain hit the area. it looks like downtown san jose is flirting with-yes satellite and radar deeper and eye on the high clouds that are stringing in. future cast 4 stated that by 9:00 there will be some light rain in the north bay. it is really not into the overnight hours that it will pick up in intensity. >> uses certainly be prepared for this because there may be a another messy one. >> prio it shoulwill will startt with the bay bridge will ride westbound skills to build from 18 to 19 minutes. there are no problems on the upper deck. the san mateo drive seems to be okay. the drive time is stand on the 30 minutes. for the golden gate bridge which is see a get a little bit heavier but it has not created any delays. we are keeping an eye on 680 in the southbound direction. there is an accident that is reported. it would keep an eye on t

by the coast side. a cooler afternoon let us break down the numbers. 614 mountain view fremont. 62 in los gatos. an increase in high clouds. low sixties for fairfield, pittsburgh, and antioch. 62 in antioch. to the north bay we have a valley fog forming now. partly cloudy skies into the afternoon. 64 novato and san rafeal and upper 60s in san francisco. your kron 4 7 day around the bay forecast is showing rain on tap for tomorrow and wednesday. this is a significantly weaker system and this weekend. slight potential for rain saturday and sunday. we will keep that sunshine around. i'll have more on the forecast coming up. >> i want to give you a quick look at traffic. not monitoring anything major. overnight road were not the approach of the bay bridge toll plaza. traffic is sailing. no metering lights active. we are seeing top speeds up the incline and across the upper deck. the san mateo bridge looks good in both directions no problem getting to it coming down the nimitz. south bound 101 is a trouble-free ride coming out of the north bay. >> our traffic maps showed eight easy rider coming down

can see the brake lights there as folks make their way toward fremont. here is steve. >>> thank you. a little bit of a break here. patchy fog. we'll have one more system for rain. it will not be as strong as any of the three we just saw. it will still give us rain. and pattern changes. what is interesting north way alaska 50 below. fair bank, alaska 30 below. there are signs we are going into a cooler pattern. first let's focus on rainfall totals which have been incredible over the last five days. santa rosa 181% of normal. 13.5 inches of rain. i think you're doing fine. you might have had an inch of that by wednesday morning. san francisco average 4.81. almost up to eight inches of rain. 165% of normal. if you go a couple miles away you can double or triple some of the amounts. or observer tom had 5.75. there was a lot of rain near san jose. not bad today. mostly sunny. much, much cooler. 39 napa. 39 santa rosa. patchy fog also up toward the north bay as well. we will get rain out of it. nothing too outrageous. it will make it into late tuesday and wednesday. then things look quiet

around the 60 degree mark. for fremont milpitas san jose 63. more in palo alto. taking it to the east bay sunny skies 62 for walnut creek in castro valley. fog in the north bay. sunshine into the afternoon. 54 napa will. 59 in richmond. downtown san francisco at 58 degrees. satellite and radar monitoring the bigger weather story. expect light rain probably tomorrow afternoon for the north bay. a little bit of wet weather expected for tomorrow night for places like san francisco. this is not going to be a big rainmaker. maybe a quarter of an inch for the north bay. for class every or else. by thursday we will continue with the dry pattern as we head into friday. mild conditions on tap for saturday and sunday. george. >> we are still looking at a pretty normal commute we are not tracking any hot spots. we have a back up at the bay bridge but not too bad. 12- 20 minutes depending on your approach to the span. for your ride to the san mateo bridge this is starting to get heavy. here is just before 8:00 a.m. we are looking at slow and go conditions differ from this is a real puzzling change in

fremont. back to you guys. >> new this morning, a high- speed chase caused a chp patrol car to flip over in livermore. it happened just before 4 a.m. on eastbound 580 between greenville and north flynn roads. the officer was chasing the speeding car when the patrol car flipped. the driver sped away. other officers caught up to the car in tracy and then pulled it over. two officers in that flipped car were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. >>> also this morning, a car smashes into a fence next to a house in campbell in the middle of the night on central avenue. police say they tried to stop the car for a traffic violation. well, a chase began and then the car crashed. the driver got out and ran and was later caught. police now say the car involved was stolen. >>> it is 5:39. contra costa county supervisors will consider plans this week to close 4 more fire stations. the chief says it's all necessary after the failure of a parcel tax hike to fund the district. the county is looking at closing stations in walnut creek, clayton, martinez and lafayette to save about $3 million. >>> t
